Greg's Flats Fly Shrimp Fly
Greg's Flats Fly Shrimp Fly is a proven flats pattern designed for bonefish that are feeding on shrimp, small crabs, and other bottom-dwelling crustaceans. Originally built around the needs of Bahamas bonefishing, this fly has the right combination of subtle profile, natural movement, and quiet entry to make it a strong choice anywhere bonefish are found.
Tied sparsely for a clean presentation, Greg's Flats Fly Shrimp lands with very little disturbance, making it especially useful when casting to nervous fish on clear, shallow flats. The shrimp-style profile, split-tail effect, and palmered body help suggest life without creating an oversized silhouette. Fish it with short strips, pauses, and small bottom-hopping movements to imitate a shrimp or small crustacean trying to escape.
This is a versatile bonefish fly because it can be matched to both water depth and bottom type. Choose lighter or unweighted versions for tailing fish in very skinny water, bead chain versions for general flats use, and heavier eyes when wind, current, or deeper water require a faster sink. Available in tan and olive, this fly can be matched to light sand flats, turtle grass edges, darker bottoms, and mixed flats where bonefish are actively searching for food.
- Designed for Bahamas and Deep Water Cay-style bonefishing
- Effective shrimp and small-crab impression for clear flats
- Sparse tie helps the fly enter the water softly
- Available in multiple hook sizes and sink weights
- Tan and olive color options for matching flats conditions
- Free weed guard option available
- Hand-tied on Mustad 2X strong stainless steel saltwater hooks
Whether you are wading shin-deep sand flats, casting from a skiff, or sight fishing to cruising bonefish, Greg's Flats Fly Shrimp is a confidence pattern that deserves a place in every serious bonefish box.
